Cinemas Near Me: Swanage

"I do like to be beside the seaside..." a perfect place, as this penny shuffle in Swanage Pier Amusement arcade calls it, for Jolly 'Ollys! A day trip to Swanage and Corfe Castle in Dorset found me enjoying a number of film and cinema related sites from current/former cinemas, to a fabulous selection of showbiz themed arcade machines to film locations from some of my fave films.

Current film fans will be enjoying the latest releases at The Mowlem, Swanage with its dramatic views across the bay. The former Ritz Cinema now a hardware store & the adjacent Grand Theatre is a rather less grand Budgens now.

Swanage Pier can be spotted in many film and TV shows including Wilde (1997), Tess of the D'Urbervilles (1998) and more recently Howards End BBC (2017/2018), the latter pictured.

Swanage Railway can be seen in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk (2017). Check out this Alamy page of location photos taken in July 2016. I wasn't so lucky with the weather for my July day!

Corfe Castle was used for The Mayor of Casterbridge (1978), but for many its use in Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971) made it magical fairytale place to visit, pictured.

And finally, when you're on the pier do pop into the Amusement Arcade and enjoy some showbiz themed arcade machines.
