Writer's picture: Ellen CheshireEllen Cheshire

Updated: May 5, 2023

With the notional 'year' element that came with the #52FilmsByWomen pledge out the window, this is now my 11th batch of 52 films since starting in 2016. This blog covers films watched between Nov 2021-Mar 2022 directed/co-directed by women.

Amongst this 52 were three animations (Seder-Masochism, Frozen, Encanto), three documentaries (Framing Britney Spears, Romantic Comedy, Elvis '69), one short (Licking the Star) and one anthology film (XX). Nine were re-visits (in bold below).

Here's my top 10 from the first-time watches:

  • Passing (2021, Rebecca Hall)

  • Promising Young Woman (2020, Emerald Fennell)

  • Zola (2020, Janicza Bravo)
