In celebration of International Women's Day in March 2020, I set myself the challenge to pick one film a year, directed by a woman since 2000. Given that later in the year I embarked on film viewing project to watch films sequentially from 1930 to 2020, I thought I'd revisit this list to see whether any new discoveries have moved those previously selected out of the top-spot!

2009 Bright Star, British-French-Australian bio-pic directed by Jane Campion
2010 Edge, British independent drama directed by Carol Morley - a new entry replacing a similarly chilly Winter's Bone.
2011 Dreams of a Life, British drama-documentary directed by Carol Morley
2012 Stories We Tell, Canadian autobiographical documentary directed by Sarah Polley
2013 Wadjda, the first Saudi Arabian film to be written and directed by a woman, Haifaa al-Mansour
2014 A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Persian-language Vampire film directed by Ana Lily Amirpour
2015 Mustang, Turkish set film about five sisters directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven Read more
2016 Prevenge, a British comedy slasher film written by, directed by and starring Alice Lowe
2017 Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, an American bio-pic about the chap who created Wonder Woman and the two women in his life, directed and written by Angela Robinson
2018 The Rider, a hard-hitting drama using the real family who inspired it, written/directed Chloé Zhao
2019 The Portrait of a Lady on Fire, haunting French romance from Céline Sciamma
And a new addition for 2020...
2020 Emma., an adaptation of the Jane Austen classic from Autumn de Wilde.
Just to add, this is a really tough experiment, there was so many close calls.
